Enable Translation Input Method on Linux with IBus or Fcitx
Check the active input framework, component visibility, session reload, and a short text-field test.
1 Start with the Linux input framework
On Linux, having a downloaded package does not mean the desktop input framework has loaded it. IBus, Fcitx, session state, and locale can all matter.
This page is not about copying install commands. It is about what to check after you have already verified the source and want to know whether the framework sees the input method.
If you have not verified the release page and Linux file source yet, read the Linux source check first. Framework troubleshooting is not useful when the source itself is unclear.
2 Check framework and session state
Linux desktops vary. GNOME, KDE, distributions, and remote sessions can expose different settings, so an old menu path is not universal.
The practical questions are simple: which framework is active, whether the input method appears there, and whether the desktop session has reloaded.
Identify the active framework
Use system settings or your desktop environment to determine whether you are using IBus, Fcitx, Fcitx5, or another input framework.
Check whether the component appears
Open the framework input method list and see whether Translation Input Method can be added. If it is missing, return to the release page instead of guessing package names.
Restart the session before testing
Input frameworks often need sign-out, sign-in, or a desktop session restart before new components load. Save work before testing.
Test a short phrase in a plain field
After adding it, type a short phrase in a plain text field before moving to work apps.
3 When to return to the download page
If the framework never lists the component, or you cannot confirm whether the file matches your distribution, return to the download and release pages instead of adding repair scripts.
If the component appears but cannot switch, use the switching guide. If it switches but candidates do not appear, use the candidate display guide.
Editor note
FAQ
That depends on the current release and product notes. Linux desktops often involve IBus, Fcitx, or a desktop input framework, so identify your environment first.
Verify the install source, restart the session if needed, confirm the framework is running, and check whether the release page includes Linux notes. Do not stack forum scripts.
Commands not documented by the current release page should not be treated as recommendations from this site. Linux input methods touch system components, so guessing package names is unsafe.
Check before you install
Before installing, open the download page and verify the current release, platform notes, and file availability. If something behaves oddly, check the FAQ next.
