Wrong Translation Direction or Target Language in Translation Input Method
Verify source and target language first, then review terminology, offline resources, and language-specific scenarios.
1 Check language direction before judging quality
When Translation Input Method output looks wrong, the first thing to check is source and target language direction.
Some results look like poor translation but are really reversed direction. If you intend Chinese to English while the settings behave like English to Chinese, the output will be confusing.
Use a short plain sentence before testing a mixed, terminology-heavy work paragraph. If the short sentence works, then move on to terminology and context.
2 Verify source and target in three passes
Language direction depends on the current task: what you type, what language you want as output, and whether the target app also processes text.
If the app does not show a language pair, do not infer one. Use the visible UI, download page, and on-site notes.
Write down the intended pair
State the language you type and the language you expect as output, such as Chinese to English or English to Chinese.
Test with a short sentence
Use a simple sentence without terms or mixed language. If that fails, adjust the language direction before judging quality.
Inspect mixed-language text
Brand names, code, abbreviations, and mixed scripts can confuse your test. Split the text into smaller pieces when needed.
Then review dictionary or scenario settings
If the direction is correct but terms are weak, move to custom dictionary, Japanese, Korean, or cross-language typing guides.
3 Keep offline, dictionary, and language guides separate
Offline setup does not automatically mean every language pair is available. A custom dictionary also cannot replace the source and target setting.
If you recently updated or moved devices, check the download page and changelog before assuming that language behavior changed.
Editor note
FAQ
The source and target languages may be reversed, automatic interpretation may not match the text, or the input may mix several languages. Start with a short language-pair test.
A wrong target language usually sends the whole output in the wrong direction. Quality issues tend to show up in terminology, tone, or context after the language pair is correct.
Use the current app options, download page, and on-site notes. Do not assume support from old screenshots or unrelated articles.
Check before you install
Before installing, open the download page and verify the current release, platform notes, and file availability. If something behaves oddly, check the FAQ next.
